Critical Reflection

Module learning  At the beginning of this module, I had set two goals that I wished to achieve. The first one was to curb my nervousness in order to deliver fluent presentations. Initially, I only knew how to write a script, and I would refer to and/or memorise the script during my presentations. Over the course of the module, I feel like I have improved drastically in the way I present. For one, I have learned to structure my thoughts and question myself in order to critically think. For instance, “We would like to talk about traffic safety”. This is followed by my internal thought “Why is this important?”. As I ruminated on these thoughts during the preparation phases, I found it easier to connect my points together—in a way that would make sense to the audience. This allowed me to be less reliant on my script and to be a more coherent speaker. My second goal was to be more effective in my written communication, to ensure that readers who stumble upon my work would understand the co

Kok's article "Go-Ahead Singapore rolls out 6-month trial of public buses with solar panels (SPs)" (2021) informs the public about the implementation of a project done by Go-Ahead, a bus operator in Singapore. In order to utilise solar energy to reduce fuel consumption and carbon emission, Go-Ahead has installed "1.6mm thick, flexible, and shatterproof" SPs on two diesel-powered buses in Singapore, over a 6-month trial period.  Kok reported that the two combined SPs generate up to 1,000 watts of energy to charge the buses' batteries, thereby reducing the batteries' reliance on the alternator. This lessens the strain on the buses' engines, saving 1,400 litres of diesel, and reducing 3,700 tonnes of carbon emissions, per bus, annually. These figures are extrapolated from data in the United Kingdom, but the project is expected to do better here—given Singapore’ sunny climate. Kok stated that Go-Ahead used lightweight panels (i.e total of 20kg), wh

'The Soul of Communication'

If I were a leader in the future, I would be involved in many interactions with both my superiors and my subordinates. E ffective communication with my superiors through the right usage of tone and tactfulness would be crucial, as this deficiency might lead to unintended tension. Regarding my subordinates, their safeties and career s depend heavily on me . Hence, effective communication would enable me to convey my instructions carefully, so as to avoid misunderstanding and/or failure of tasks.         Additionally, a good leader should actively engage in critical thinking , as members of the organisation would consider my opinions regarding changes within the company. By thinking critical ly, I could aid the team in consider ing things from different perspectives , in creating meticulous plans, and in making informed decisions. Without critical thinking, my opinions might be short-sighted and based on emotions, and this m ight stunt the organisation’s growth instead of

Self-Introduction Letter

Dear Mr Blackstone and peers,        I have been interested in engineering since I was 14 years old. Since then, I have worked hard and excelled in the relevant subjects such as mathematics and physics. My curiosity in the mechanisms and process of new inventions, especially regarding airplanes, led me to pursue aerospace engineering at Republic Polytechnic. However, in a turn of events during COVID-19, I started to reconsider being in the field of aerospace. Hence, I chose to re-direct my direction, and I am studying in a more generalised mechanical engineering course.          In terms of communication, my strength lies in my ability to improvise the way I present a content, depending on my audience. For instance, I would engage in a light-hearted manner of presenting if my audience were my peers, but I would engage in a more serious tone if my audience are of higher seniority than me. With that said, one of my weaknesses is my tendency to speak significantly faster during feelings o
